Food for the 'Fest

When most people think Oktoberfest, they think beer. Big frosty mugs and genuine German beer…dark and flavorful. None of that watery ‘light’ stuff for this affair, right?

But, of course, there’s a lot more to the ‘Fest than that. There’s food! After all, you can’t drink all that brew on an empty stomach. Yet, again, when you think of Oktoberfest, you probably think of sausages…bratwurst, kielbasa, knockwurst and the like.

Indeed, if you’re having guests over for an Oktoberfest bash, you may want to include something that comes in links, but we suggest you paint your party with a broader brush.

Roast chicken is one of the most popular meats served at the Munich celebration, home of the first Oktoberfest in 1810, and those big, soft and salty pretzels partner beautifully with a frosty cold brew. You may wish to include those items in your spread.

We have several schmackhaft (tasty) recipes we’d like you to consider for your Oktoberfestivities.

Our Octoberfest Submarine is one hearty, awesome sandwich, an ideal mate for a stout Deutschland brew.

You won’t go wrong with this Classic German Potato Salad recipe. It’s one of our all-time favorites.

Or how about saucy Applewood Smokehouse Sandwiches with Cider BBQ Sauce? That’ll keep the beer flowing.

We haven’t forgotten dessert, either. This Black Forest Trifle stands tall for an impressive appearance. It offers an indulgently sweet flavor that will have your guests saying “Ach der lieber!” and asking for seconds.

Now all that’s left is to get out your best beer steins and maybe some little German flags. Put on your lederhosen and yodeler hat, and crank up the polka music. Cue the bubble machine. Ah-one and ah-two…
