Trend Watch: Larry King Opens Brooklyn Bagel Shop in Beverly Hills

If you were worried about Larry King being at a loss for things to do now that he’s retired and no longer barking out things like “Cedar Rapids, Iowa, go ahead!” nightly on CNN, you can relax. He’s keeping pace with the current food trends, and busy pushing bagels in Beverly Hills, Calif.

The first West Coast location of the Original Brooklyn Water Bagel Co. is now open with the former suspenders-wearing interviewer listed as a major investor.

The bagel chain claims that its water bagels taste great because they’re made with local Brooklyn tap water. Locations outside the Brooklyn area use a patented 14-step process to “Brooklynize” the water and replicate the taste.

King says he’ll serve more in a promotional capacity rather than in an operational one. So don’t expect to walk in and find Larry wearing a logo ball cap and cooking the bagels. Although you never know.

Taking advantage of the current water bagel food trend, the chain has ambitious plans for expansion. Steven Fassberg, the chain’s founder expects to have 100 locations in the Los Angeles area within the next half-dozen years or so. The company has also sold more than 200 franchise agreements in Florida and more along the East Coast.
