For an authentic toast to the races, look no further – beware, these cocktails are no joke, but they are sooo good!

Why try? Fresh mint infuses quality Kentucky bourbon to refresh and relax you any summer day, but on Derby Day…absolutely perfect.

This recipe is part of our Derby Days watch party menu. Click here to check out the rest of the spread.

Foodie Byte: Don’t skimp on buying great bourbon for this drink. Since most of the drink is bourbon, you’ll want to sip on the best the Bluegrass State has to offer.

Ingredients

  • 3 sprigs fresh mint
  • 2 tablespoons simple syrup
  • 1/2 cup shaved or crushed ice
  • Bourbon to fill (about 1/3 cup)

Preparation

  • 1
Tear up 2 sprigs mint and drop in a chilled glass. With the back of a spoon, bruise the mint well in the bottom of the glass.
  • 2
Stir in simple syrup, add ice, and fill with bourbon. Stir well and top with another sprig of mint. Serve. (See "Additional Info" for Simple Syrup recipe.)
