The Acireale Granita Festival in Italy

On this episode of You, Me and Sicily, Eszter and Alfred will take you to the largest Granita festival in Italy, where people from around the world compete for the honor of “Best Granita.” During the steamy summer/spring Sicilian days there is nothing better than a cool, refreshing Granita. Granita is something like flavored ice or slush, but so different!


It’s made with real fruit or nuts and the most popular flavors are lemon, strawberry, peach, melon, mulberry, pistachio, almond, coffee and chocolate! We also explore the history of this frozen sweet icy delight that was first brought to Sicily by Arab traders in the 9th century!
