Now That's A Big Dessert!

We’ve paid a lot of attention to desserts at The Food Channel lately (see our Top Ten Dessert Trends for more about that). We even noted the importance of shareability. After all, when was the last time you ate a restaurant dessert all by yourself? Even those great dessert shots come in multiples. Last time we ordered the six pack it was with a group of six . . . and we still all tried a bite of each flavor!

So when a Andy Ford sent this picture of a BIG dessert (from Kenny’s Burger Joint in Frisco, TX), it got me thinking. Are we supersizing our desserts because they are part of a social occasion?

What’s the biggest dessert you’ve experienced? And did you try to go it alone?

From Twitter: QueenofBiz@FoodChannel I had my first banana split at Coney Island when I was a teenager. More than just an ordinary banana split - it was massive!

I think there are a couple of reasons desserts are getting larger. one being like you said the popularity of sharing a dessert or desserts. The other, which I think is the more important reason, is the perception of value. The only thing that can make a well presented, great tasting dessert even better is knowing you have gotten your moneys worth when you look over your check after the meal.
