A national survey sponsored by Reddi-Wip says the inclusion of real ingredients is an important factor when making shopping decisions. The moms surveyed said the top three deciding factors are taste, nutrition and inclusion of real ingredients. The survey, meant to uncover moms’ attitudes, preferences and insights, was conducted by Ketchum and M/A/R/C Research, which polled 500 working mothers over the age of 18 who have children under the age of 18 at home.
Despite an increased general awareness of nutrition over the past decade, when it comes to
making food purchasing decisions, taste is still king. Moms named the following as key factors in food purchase decisions:
- Taste (93%
- Nutrition (88%)
- Real Ingredients (83%)
- Whether kids will eat it (81%)
The survey also showed that most respondents (81%) do not believe that whipped toppings contain real dairy cream.
Reddi-Wip has taken these results to create a campaign to tell people that their products are made with real dairy cream, and, in fact, that real dairy cream is the main ingredient in Reddi-wip. The company has teamed up with Pastry Chef and cookbook author Gale Gand (author of Chocolate and Vanilla) to create new recipes and information.
“Foods made with real ingredients just taste better,” said Gand, “As a pastry chef, I prefer fresh ingredients that are either homemade or taste like it, but like many busy moms, I don’t always have the time to make meals and treats from scratch,” said Gand. Incidentally, Cool Whip has come out with its own aerosol product, and cream is an ingredient in the “extra creamy” variety. We conducted our own review with The Food Channel chefs, and two of the cans were essentially a draw when it came to flavor and usability. To find out which ones, click here to see our full review.
