Dollar Items Unpopular With Franchisees

By Cari Martens

In the Corporate Hating Wave, people tend to push back against what they see as big business. In this case, it’s reportedly fast food franchise owners who say they are suffering because of dollar menu options handed down by Corporate.

Franchisees are seeing higher commodity costs and are having to pay higher wages at the same time that consumers are looking for lower-priced menu items. We are seeing it everywhere, so it’s probably no surprise that McDonald’s operators are among the first to give voice to the problem.

According to a report from Advertising Age, some stores in New York and Texas have either stopped offering the dollar menu items or chosen not to accept funding for advertising the products. They are asking, instead, for advertising to support food items with a higher margin.

Anyone have change for a dollar?
