This Thursday, May 15, bargain-minded Americans can get a FREE 16-ounce iced coffee, a FREE southern-style chicken biscuit (or sandwich) and a medium drink, all for the price of that one medium drink…by visiting McDonald’s and Dunkin’ Donuts on that day.
Fast food giant McDonald’s is introducing new chicken items to its morning and evening menu lineups, and will promote them during a mass sampling event at 14,000 of the chain’s restaurants on May 15. On that very same day, Dunkin’ Donuts will be offering free iced coffee drinks from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Chicken with a Southern Accent
Customers can go to participating McDonald’s to try the Southern Style Chicken Biscuit during breakfast hours, or the Southern Style Chicken Sandwich during regular lunch and dinner hours—for free with purchase of any medium or large drink.
The chicken biscuit marks McDonald’s foray into the chicken-for-breakfast category, and the chain has been testing the item in Southern markets throughout 2008.
“By giving customers—many of whom are unfamiliar with chicken for breakfast—the opportunity to try the new menu items on May 15, we anticipate 2 million Southern Style Chicken Biscuits and 6 million Southern Style Chicken Sandwiches will be given away nationwide,” said Neil Golden, senior vice president and chief marketing officer for McDonald’s.
By adding the Southern Style Chicken Biscuit to its lineup, McDonald’s has become the largest national fast food chain to serve chicken at breakfast, according to the company.
Free Iced Coffee Day
Not to be out-dealed, Dunkin’ Donuts has designated May 15 as “Free Iced Coffee Day,” and will offer a free 16-ounce iced coffee from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. The cold beverage is available in a variety of flavors, with no additional purchase required.
Customers are also encouraged to try Berry Berry Iced Coffee, which combines the seasonal tastes of blueberry and raspberry with Dunkin’ Donuts’ award-winning coffee, or many other delicious flavors.
As part of the one-day event, Dunkin’ Donuts is donating $80,000 to the National Police Athletic League’s Youth Leadership Program, a nonprofit organization that works with disadvantaged youth across the United States to emphasize the importance of community service and peer leadership.
“We look forward to treating everyone to a free cup of our delicious, freshly brewed iced coffee on May 15,” said Dunkin’ Donuts Brand Marketing Officer, Frances Allen. “Dunkin’ Donuts has been brewing iced coffee for more than 25 years and we are thrilled to celebrate those who keep America running with this second annual, nationwide event. In addition, we’re pleased to support the National Police Athletic League’s Youth Leadership Program in celebration of those who serve others in our communities.”
