Clay Dunn and Zach Patton felt guilty.
Piles upon piles of unread food magazines littered the floor of their Washington, D.C. apartment, wasting space and money on subscriptions. To appease their guilt, the duo decided to put the magazines to good use for a change by trying out at least one recipe from each of the magazines.
Then they decided to write about it, starting The Bitten Word.
“The interaction with and support from readers has definitely been a hugely rewarding aspect of writing the blog,” Dunn told The Food Channel. “Also, in terms of our own cooking and eating, we love how writing the blog has inspired us to try new foods and recipes that we otherwise would have never thought about making.”
Since starting The Bitten Word, the blog has been recognized by several media outlets, including being nominated for Best Food Blog by the Well Fed Network and being named one of the 50 of the World’s Best Food Blogs by Times Online.
One of their favorite recipes the duo crafted is for a Golden Beet Salad, taken from Martha Stewart Living magazine.
