40 Days Sans Meat: Even on a Monday

What are you giving up for Lent? Christen Nehmer, videographer for The Food Channel, is giving us her experience in going meatless. Follow along throughout the 40 days of Lent.

Day 20:

Monday. The perfect buzz kill for the weekend, at least sometimes.

This particular Monday wasn’t too bad. I had a dentist appointment and I was telling my hygienist about my blog and giving up meat for Lent. She was impressed and couldn’t believe that I was actually doing it. Now I feel that if I ate meat, I would only be cheating myself. I think my track coach in high school told my team that whenever we didn’t run what was expected.

For lunch, I went to one of our local grocery stores and loaded up a mixed greens salad. As I was walking down the bar, I noticed the fresh cut salami, turkey, ham and chicken. I was proud of myself because I just walked on by.

Later in the afternoon I walked into the kitchen and one of our chefs was browning chicken for a dinner that night. Oh man, it smelled good and looked good. Chicken is probably my favorite land meat (like that?) because it’s so versatile, delicious and healthy. This week is the halfway point. I’m feeling pretty good about this even though I am tempted just about everyday.

Tomorrow night for dinner, I’m grilling salmon. Yum. Fish to the rescue.
