Help! Can I freeze a salmon spread? Ingredients: Smoke salmon, cream cheese, sour cream, lemon juice, dill, etc. I made about 3 pints last night for a party, but everyone had to leave due to bad weather. I would like to freeze it to serve later.
You can freeze it from a food safety standpoint, but there is no guarantee that the sour cream will hold up wellâ€”it tends to crystallize (and, the salmon may also, although being smoked would help that). Worth trying rather than wasting it; keep in mind this is an opinion based on our kitchen experience, not on any scientific knowledge. Nor have we ever experimented with freezing that particular style of dip. Let us know how it turns out!
