Digital Food Scale Gives You the Scoop

By Cari Martens

The Sharper Image catalog always has lots of ultra-cool high-tech (and expensive) gadgets in it. You’ve perhaps thumbed through it while flying over the state of Indiana at 30,000 feet, and said to yourself, ‘Well, that’s indeed sharp, but I would never pay that kind of money for THAT.’

Well, here’s one that you might actually want to buy. Called the Perfect Portions Digital Food Scale, it weighs your food item and lets you quickly track the calories, carbs, sugar, fiber or sodium.

Want to know how much sodium is in that handful of roasted nuts? This gizmo can tell you. You can find out the sugar grams in a pile of candy, a handful of berries, whatever. It’s programmed to give you the skinny on 2000 foods and ingredients—plus 99 custom foods you can add to the database.

You simply put your food right on top of the stylish, easy-to-clean 9- x 6-inch glass, then wipe clean.

Could be one step toward eating healthier—or at least more knowledgeably. Cost is $49.99.
