Food Trucks Catering to Holiday Parties

Holiday office parties in New York City are seeking out a trendy new source for festive foods this party season. The ubiquitous gourmet food trucks are getting a share of the holiday pie, adding some new competition for area restaurants and caterers.

Rickshaw Dumpling’s trucks are supplying Asian fare to about a dozen parties this season, according to a report by Lisa Fickenscher on Crain’s New York Rickshaw’s owner, Kenny Lau said they just did a few parties last year.

Another food truck doing brisk holiday business is Wafels & Dinges. The truck will be serving waffles and other treats at some 25 holiday soirés this season. Owner Thomas Degeest said they’re doing twice as many parties compared to last year’s holiday season.

Bistro Truck, which offers Moroccan cuisine, is another truck being hired for seasonal office parties.

Many of these trucks simply pull onto the parking lot and staffers come out to pick up the food there and return to their offices. Other trucks deliver right to the door.

I’m not sure. Is this a sign of continued belt tightening in a tough economy, or do people just love the foods offered by these rolling restaurants?
