‘Going All Out to Go All In,’ is the theme of the upcoming Multi-Cultural Foodservice Hospitality Alliance’s conference.
MFHA’s president, Gerry Fernandez, says the foodservice and hospitality industry is at greater risk than ever before. ‘There is a risk for not getting the best and brightest talent to pursue careers in the industry, a risk of making multicultural customer service mistakes, and a risk of missing business building opportunities.’
MFHA’s 2010 ‘Ollin’ Conference will be focused around building the cultural intelligence necessary to both manage and avoid multicultural risk in businesses.
Fernandez says that, ’Attendees will gain valuable knowledge to help them stand out from the competition and learn about the unique challenges faced by Asians, Blacks and Latinos in today’s workplace.’
He asserts, ‘Companies lacking cultural intelligence, cultural insights and cultural connections simply cannot take advantage of a more diverse and multicultural marketplace. The cultural missteps that uninformed employees are making in today’s industry are costing their businesses big time.’
Speakers on tap to headline the conference include Dr. Richard Bucher, who is the author of Building Cultural Intelligence; Betty Henderson Wingfield, a professional development coach and innovative strategist; Ron Kuramoto, facilitator, leadership development coach and management consultant specializing in multicultural collaborations; Dr. Robert Rodriguez, author of Latino Talent: Effective Strategies to Recruit, Retain and Develop Hispanic Professionals; and Pepper Miller, author of What’s Black About It? Insights to Increase Your Share of a Changing African-American Market.
The Aztec word “Ollin” means to move and act now with all your heart. It means to follow your path in life wholeheartedly. Fernandez stresses that, ‘MFHA embraces the notion that to experience Ollin we have to get ‘All In.’’
The one-day event, which takes place on November 1 at Hotel Allegro in Chicago, costs $249 for members and $289 for non-members. Visit www.mfha.net to register.
‘Companies must be prepared to fully leverage the business opportunities that a multicultural workforce and marketplace present,’ says Fernandez. ‘Organizations and individuals who are culturally fluent, culturally connected and culturally competent will prosper.’
