With much of the U.S. currently shivering from a blast of frigid weather, sales of a new holiday spirit from Beefeater gin are likely to be as brisk as the icy wind blowing across the Upper Midwest.
Developed by Beefeater’s Master Distiller Desmond Payne, Beefeater Winter Edition is specially formulated for sipping on cold winter nights, with traditional seasonal flavors of cinnamon, nutmeg, and pine shoots. These flavors are said to enhance the piney flavor of juniper, the most vital botanical in all premium gins.
Mr. Payne also added extra Seville orange peel to the original Beefeater London Dry recipe to create a spiced, warming gin, ideal for the winter season.
“I wanted to create a gin that would enhance the traditional Beefeater recipe and complement hot punches and other popular winter cocktails,” Payne says. “Beefeater Winter Edition captures the familiar aromas of the season using a balanced combination of botanicals that are synonymous with that particular time of year.”
The new winter edition comes in a special edition bottle and gift carton, and it follows the successful launch earlier this year of a summer limited edition. If sales of the winter edition do well, can we expect spring and autumn varieties to be trotted out as well? We shall see.
I think I’d like to have a bottle of this new winter spirit by my side tonight as I warm my bones in front of a crackling fire, and read from Charles Dickens—or watch news footage of people digging out from the latest snowstorm.
