Colin Powell to Give Keynote Address at NRA Show

By

General Colin Powell will share insights into global events, and the impact those changes and issues will have in the United States and abroad, at the National Restaurant Association’s annual trade show next month. Powell will address attendees at the 2011 Restaurant, Hotel-Motel Show on Sunday, May 22, at Chicago’s McCormick Place.

“Based on Gen. Powell’s military, political and private sector experiences, he understands the power of persuasion, purpose and building trust in getting people to work together toward a common goal,” said C.W. Craig Reed, Convention Chair for NRA Show 2011 and Director of Food and Beverage, Broadmoor Hotel. “Gen. Powell will undoubtedly impart invaluable insights on key issues that affect NRA Show attendees and us all.”

In 2001, Gen. Powell stated during his confirmation hearing to become the 65th Secretary of State that the guiding principle of U.S. foreign policy during his tenure would be “America stands ready to help any country that wishes to join the democratic world.”  Previously, Powell served as a key aide to the Secretary of Defense and as the National Security Advisor to President Reagan. His distinguished Army service included the rank of a Four-Star General and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, during which he oversaw 28 crises including Operation Desert Storm.

Since returning to private life, Gen. Powell is currently helping to raise funds for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial and for the construction of an education center for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and is the Founder of the Colin Powell Policy Center at the City College of New York.

Powell’s keynote address is open to all registered NRA Show 2011 attendees, exhibitors and media, and seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
