Eat Pizza, Taste Cake

Move over cupcakes and  macaroons. Pizza Cakes™ are a fun new way to enjoy your sweets. Baker Debbie Meyer, after taking the suggestion from her husband, has created the ultimate example of  the Culturewave® Sensory Appeal™ by intensifying the experience, because “When you add a new sensation, it all seems new.”™ While it might look savory, all the toppings are hand molded using fondant, chocolate, Rice Krispies treats, toffee and cookie crumbs for an authentic “meaty” look. Other so-called “pizza cakes” are usually basic layer cakes made pizza-ish with a sprinkling of gummies and M&M’s. Meyer’s cake looks like a cross between a thin-crust and a deep-dish pizza with sauce, cheese and pepperoni.

As reported by Elena Ferretti on, “Must Have Meat” has pepperoni, sausage, hamburger and bacon. Ground beef with onions, pickles, mustard and ketchup is found on one called “Cheeseburger, Cheeseburger.” “Look Mom, I’m Eating my Veggies” sports green peppers, green olives, mushrooms, tomato chunks and onion. “Pizza Brownie Supreme” offers a layer of chocolate frosting topped with pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms and green peppers over a brownie crust.

“I had to make them realistic, but they also couldn’t be so onerous that I couldn’t reproduce them by myself, in my own kitchen, on a national basis,” says Meyer. There are large, elaborate, three-dimensional sculpted cakes out there that cost thousand of dollars and take days to make. These aren’t those cakes. These are for kids’ birthdays and dads. Father’s Day is huge for her.

I am completely sold after watching the “Unwrapped” video on, I am convinced that I need a “Cheeseburger, Cheeseburger” delivered for my next party.  I just need to come up with an occasion…wonder how soon that will be!
