TV’s “Cake Boss” has announced that fans of his TLC reality show will soon be able to watch him make cakes and eat it, too.
Cake decorator extraordinaire Buddy Valastro has released his cake recipes to the company that supplies his Hoboken, N.J., bakery with ingredients such as sugar and flour, to create a line of cakes that can be produced commercially.
The lineup of cakes, based on creations he’s made on previous episodes of “Cake Boss,” will begin arriving in bakeries and grocery stores this summer. One of the first to hit the shelves will be the “Badda Bloom,” a two-layer cake (one chocolate, one vanilla) with a layer of fudge and covered in bright green, butter cream frosting with pink and purple flowers.
“What makes me unique is my designs,” Valastro told The Associated Press. “We came up with the designs, using my exact ingredients and baking instructions, down to how many revolutions for mixing the batter. … I’m proud of this.”
Valastro unveiled the new cakes at the International Dairy-Deli-Bakery Association show last week in New Orleans, where long lines of star-struck bakery professionals snaked around his booth for the chance to take a picture or get an autograph.
“I just love what I do,” said Valastro. “I love making cakes, and I’m good at it.”
On his reality show, now in its fifth season on TLC (Mondays at 9 p.m. ET), Valastro and his team at Carlo’s Bakery create amazing custom wedding cakes, specialty cakes and other fancy-decorated confections.
The retail rollout has been in the works for months, Valastro says. After lots of baking and taste testing, Valastro’s partners at Dawn Foods finally came up with cakes that matched his own handcrafted creations. The ‘Boss’ said he couldn’t tell the difference between the last round of commercial prototypes and ones made in his bakery. The cakes will sell at retail for around $28.
To Valastro’s many fans who have settled for enjoying the cakes vicariously, the message now is “let them eat cake.”
