Hey, maybe the economy really is headed in the right direction. We’re starting to see steak showing up on the breakfast menu at fast food restaurants.

As first reported by, Hardee’s has just added a new Ribeye Steak, Egg & Cheese Biscuit to its morning lineup. The hearty sandwich features thinly sliced ribeye steak, a folded egg and Swiss cheese on one of chain’s signature Made from Scratch buttermilk biscuits. It’s priced at $2.99, or $4.69 as a meal served with Hash Rounds and a beverage.

Carl’s Jr., the sister chain of Hardee’s, has yet to add the steak biscuit to its menu.

Steak has also made its debut on the morning menu at McDonald’s, but only north of the border so far. McDonald’s of Canada has introduced a Steak ’n Bagel sandwich, which is a regular or multigrain bagel topped with steak, sautéed onions, cheese, a folded egg and HP sauce (a brown sauce/gravy that’s especially popular in the UK).

Great Steak, a relative newcomer in the quick-service realm, now with nearly 200 locations, (originally known as Great Steak & Potato Co.), menus a Steak, Egg and Cheese breakfast sandwich—no big surprise, there, the chain has “steak” as half of its name.
