Hot Trend in London: Caketails

It’s like having your cake and drinking it, too. Something called “caketails” has become a big hit in trendy London bakeries, coinciding with the arrival of the Summer Olympics.

The concept is pretty basic: add your favorite booze to the cake mix and bake.

Brit bakeries in London, Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire have embraced the craze and are flavoring their adults-only cupcake creations with gin, champagne, rum and amaretto.

A Brit bake shop called Ginger Cups offers such creations as a Pina Colada, Mojitio, Cosmopolitan and Strawberry Daiquiri–all in cupcake form (photo, above).

At Cake Tails by Posey in the famous tennis town of Wimbledon, you can find such delights as La Vie En Rose, a delicate blend of rose with pink champagne. Or perhaps you’d prefer the Chocolate Guinness, topped with a four-leaf clover. The shop also offers up several mocktail cupcakes, with flavors like cherry cola and strawberry daiquiri mocktail.

Posey told the UK’s MailOnline: ‘My customers are savvy folks who enjoy the story of CakeTails, which is…cocktail-inspired American-style cupcakes that combine the two best “food groups” (cupcakes and cocktails) into one delectable treat.

Well, it’s nice to know we Yanks still have some culinary influence with our friends on the British Isles.
