On occasion, the opportunity to try something really cool will present itself. So when Yonanas came into our office, I was ecstatic to try the new soft serve machine that claimed to use only 100 percent frozen fruit to create an “ice cream” like treat. How is that possible?

Online, Yonanas claims to create a soft served ice cream-like treat in seconds, with no additional fat, sugar, or preservatives. The most heavily promoted frozen fruit to use are bananas, hence the name, but the product claims to work with all frozen fruit, though some do need to be partially thawed.

The classic model, the one we tested, comes with a recipe book containing 36 recipes, so there is no shortage of ideas and inspiration for your own recipe creations.

Does it work

Here, at The Food Channel, we never endorse a product we don’t believe in, and I’m happy to say that Yonanas falls into that category, it’s really incredible!

I used the Simple Yonanas recipe from the booklet, which is 2 frozen bananas, and I added 5 frozen strawberries into the mix. I was slightly skeptical, even though I let the fruit thaw, I thought, there is no way this can come out as creamy and smooth as the photo shows.

To my utter surprise, it was. It just simply…was.

All you have to do is insert the fruit into the upper chamber and gently push it through with the provided tool, the machine does the rest. If I didn’t understand the basic mechanics of Yonanas, thanks to an instructional video online, I would think it must be magic. There must be a million tiny elves churning the frozen fruit in real-time to create this magically delicious, creamy, and smooth soft serve ‘ice cream’.

The final product really does taste great. It contains all of the flavors of fresh fruit, has a creamy consistency, and the perfect smooth texture you expect from soft-serve.

A Kitchen Essential

Yonanas is now a staple on my countertop and will be all summer. It’s so exciting to know that I can have a healthy frozen ‘dessert’ in the blink of an eye. No real prep, no cook time, and I get to feel like I’m indulging. If you have a love for ice cream, frozen yogurt, soft serve, and all things fruity, I would highly recommend Yonanas. Your family and friends will thank you!
