Here’s a summer sipper that makes you feel super good, too – Awesome ‘n Easy Ginger Ale!

Possessing many health-filled benefits, ginger is a natural anti-inflammatory, and a powerful anti-fungal and anti-bacterial, that also possesses anti-cancer properties and the ability to naturally lower cholesterol levels, protect our brains and reduce both muscle pain and arthritis-related joint pain, too – WOW!

But, more often than not, today’s ginger ales contain sugar, usually in the form of high-fructose corn syrup, and when we consume sugary drinks the cells in our body identify that sugar as toxic and release cytokines, which tell other cells they are under attack, triggering a strong inflammatory response inside of us, thus negating ginger’s glorious anti-inflammatory effects.

However, Pure Maple Syrup contains Quebecol, a phenol that curbs the body’s inflammatory response, so it works with ginger’s own anti-inflammatory actions to help make our body feel better!

Maple syrup has also been found to slow the growth of human colon cancer cells, prevent the miss-folding and clumping of two types of proteins prominent in Alzheimer’s and other neurodegenerative diseases, and it also enhances the antimicrobial potency of antibiotics, making them more effective in fighting infections in our bodies, too!

Given that pure maple syrup possesses so many beneficial properties on its own, and does not negate any of ginger’s benefits in the process, it only makes sense to put these two super-powerful ingredients together into one drink – ENJOY!

In addition to the recipe for Awesome ‘n Easy Ginger Ale there’s also a second recipe that follows to create Raw Ginger Ale.

Both are cool, refreshing and revitalizing!

Awesome 'n Easy Ginger Ale

  • 1 cup coarsely chopped fresh ginger root, skin on
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup pure maple syrup (contains quebecol, a phenol that curbs the body’s inflammatory response).
  • 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 1 liter sparkling water (Perrier) chilled

Raw Ginger Ale

  • 2-inch piece ginger
  • 12 ounces sparkling or carbonated water
  • Squeeze lemon
  • 2 Tablespoons maple syrup or honey, if desired

Awesome 'n Easy Ginger Ale

  • 1 In a food processor or blender, combine chopped ginger and water.  Blend until small pieces.
  • 2 Pour into a 1-quart saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil then reduce to a low simmer, covered, for 30 minutes.
  • 3 Remove from heat and pour through a screen strainer, pressing with back of a spoon to release liquid from fibers. Reserve fiber for other use – thickener - or add to compost.
  • 4 Strain liquid into a pint bottle then add pure maple syrup and lemon juice.
  • 5 Seal bottle and store in refrigerator until use.
  • 6 To serve, fill a glass with ice then add eight ounces of sparkling water and two ounces of Ginger syrup, or to taste. Stir gently before serving.

Raw Ginger Ale

  • 1 Using a garlic press, juice ginger into a tall glass, then add water and finish with lemon.
  • 2 Add sweetener, if desired.
  • 3 Makes one serving. Prep time: 5 minutes.
