Grilling is taking a walk on the wild side this summer, with a taste infusion based on one of the year’s hottest trends – bold flavors. Together with celebrity chef/grilling guru Guy Fieri, the National Pork Board is encouraging America to banish blah meals by launching a cross-country search for the season’s boldest recipes with the “Bring it t-ON-g! Pork Grilling Challenge.”
Three “grillmasters” will go tong-to-tong in a finale competition judged by Fieri for the chance to take home bragging rights and $5,000. And one of those tong-wielders could be you!
Guy Fieri’s “Bring On the Mojo” Pork Chops‘Bold’ Is Big
According to a recent food trend report, bold flavors are hot for 2008. Nobody knows that better than Fieri. Known for ‘Guyisms’ such as, “my food is so out of bounds and off the hook, you’re going to love it,” he pushes the boundaries on the grill to create bold and unapologetic eats. Pork (“The Other White Meat”) is a major player on Fieri’s grill. Scroll down for links to Fieri’s favorite grilled pork recipes.
“Grilling is like playing for grown-ups,” Fieri says. “It’s fun, easy and you can follow the directions or invent your own rules. Pork is your grill’s best friend. Nothing else out there blends more harmoniously with so many different seasonings; from lean tenderloin and loin chops to baby back ribs, your options are endless. It doesn’t matter which cut you toss on the grill because with pork, the taste is always off the hook,” said Fieri.
Got a Little “Guy” In You? The Pork Board Says “Bring it t-ON-G!”
The National Pork Board’s “Bring it t-ON-g Pork Grilling Challenge” is a search for the most creative, fun and boldest grilled pork recipes in the country. From May 9 through August 17, grilling enthusiasts everywhere can toss their tongs into the ring by visiting TheOtherWhiteMeat.com to submit a recipe, along with a summary on why their dish is the nation’s boldest.
Three finalists with the boldest recipes will win a trip to New York City to compete in a live grill-off for Fieri, who ultimately will help decide which recipe packs a flavor punch to make it the boldest in America. Fieri will crown the grand prize winner, who will take home $5,000, plus a new Char-Broil® RED™ Infrared Gas Grill, grilling accessories, and a two-night stay and airfare for themselves and a guest.
“I can’t wait to see what people throw at me,” said Fieri. “I’m one tough judge – bold is in my blood so if it doesn’t get my taste buds tingling, you’re going home!”
