How to Tell Fresh Eggs From Hard Boiled

Question:

My husband has mixed my fresh eggs with my hard boiled eggs and now I cannot tell the difference. Is there a test to tell them apart?

Answer:

Try spinning the eggs. Simply turn each egg on a solid surface until it spins on its own. If it spins in one place and immediately stops when lightly touched, it is hard boiled. If it scoots as it spins, wobbles, or doesn’t spin much at all, it is a fresh or uncooked egg. To avoid this problem in the future, simply add a few drops of food coloring to your water when boiling the eggs. The dyed ones will be easy to find when you go to make your deviled eggs, potato salad, or simply enjoy a hard boiled egg fresh from the shell.
