We may want to live 24-hour lives, but we’re beginning to see a bit of a backlash in how we spend that time. For instance, the orange is a perfectly good piece of fruit, but now it seems like no one has the time to peel it! It’s inconvenient to get messy, and so we are willing to pay more for a fruit that is easier to peel.

According to a Daily Mail report, consumption of oranges has fallen by as much as 2 per cent in the last year. What’s more, it’s the third year in a row that we’re eating less oranges.

Clementines and tangerines are not suffering the same fate because they offer a similar taste with a much easier, user-friendly peel. Stay tuned for more developments, because word is that new varieties of oranges are in development that offer easy-to-peel options.
