The Food Channel® presents its Top Ten Food Trends for 2009. The list is based on research conducted by The Food Channel in conjunction with the World Thought Bank found at http://www.neemee.com, and the International Food Futurists™.
We’ve seen ‘green’ get really focused in the kitchen, whether it’s through new ways to compost waste, grocery stores that give rebates for recycling, energy efficient appliances, smart equipment with heat sensors, automated cooking, even growing foods in your own kitchen. The fact that ‘green’ can mean efficiency and cost savings makes it a really strong trend for 2009.
More restaurants will be seeking to gain ‘Certified Green’ status to attract eco-conscious customers. More people will be looking for restaurants who care about the environment and signal it publicly with recycling containers and scaling back the use of styrofoam. Fair trade certified will continue to factor into food choices.
