Wine in Bottle-Shaped Cans

By Cari Martens

Volute Wine has decided to get greener by packaging their product in aluminum bottles instead of glass. The French winemaker claims the bottle is functionally identical to glass but has a lower carbon footprint and requires less weight/material per bottle than glass, as reported by package design website The Dieline.

Its unbreakable quality also makes it safer than glass during transport and storage.

The stylish bottles are single-serve size at 6.3 ounces each, making them more portable and ideal for casual parties. Volute claims the packaging also protects the wine from the potentially damaging effects of sunlight.

The wines are available in three Bordeaux varieties: Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, and Rosé.
