Bacontrepreneurs' Expanding Empire

We ran an interview/feature on bacon moguls Justin Esch and Dave Lefkow on The Food Channel nearly a year ago, revealing their business philosophy that ‘everything should taste like bacon.’

But the duo and their bacon-flavored products have really been sizzling in the last month or so. First, they had their new Baconnaise bacon-flavored mayo featured (and, frankly, made fun of) on ‘The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.’

Then Esch and Lefkow were profiled on ‘ABC News with Charles Gibson.’ Finally, in perhaps their biggest coup, the pair were interviewed on ‘Oprah.’ Oprah and her guests gave the product a taste test and gave it a favorable review. Look out now. We’ve seen what can happen with an Oprah endorsement (see: Oprah’s Book Club and Barack Obama).

Esch and Lefkow’s empire began with Bacon Salt. It comes in a variety of flavors, including Original, Hickory, Peppered, Applewood, Cheddar and Jalapeño. The self-described ‘bacontrepreneurs’ then expanded their empire with the introduction of the Baconnaise mayonnaise product which is available in Regular and Lite.

What’s next? With these two guys it could be almost anything. Bacon Soda, anyone?
