KFC has launched its much-anticipated grilled chicken with a multi-million dollar ad blitz and will give consumers a piece of its new chicken creation FREE today, Monday, April 27—a day that KFC has dubbed ‘UNFry Day.’
In a nod to the health-conscious consumer, KFC said the new chicken pieces — made in custom-designed, patented ovens — would carry between 70 and 180 calories and 4 to 9 grams of fat, depending on the piece.
“For years, KFC has worked tirelessly to perfect a grilled option that has the great flavor and taste America associates with Colonel Sanders’ Original Recipe,” said Doug Hasselo, chief food innovation officer for KFC. “We’re confident KFC’s second secret recipe, Kentucky Grilled Chicken, is one that the colonel would have approved of.”
We tried it. We loved it.
Some of our chefs here at The Food Channel had a chance to taste the new “KGC Chicken” last week and gave it the thumbs up—and still finger-licking good. They said it had a fresh-off-the-grill flavor…juicy on the inside with a crispy, lightly charred skin and seasoned just right. One chef described the taste experience as “unexpectedly wonderful.”
The Kentucky Grilled Chicken will be priced the same as KFC’s Original Recipe Chicken. Except today, when it’s FREE! (Well, one piece anyway.)
