New Restaurant Loafs Around in Chicago

Seems as if there are always stories about comfort foods around the time that the long, cold winter settles in. Especially in places like Chicago, where January and February can be brutally frigid.

Is there a more classic comfort food than meat loaf? Well, there’s a new eatery in the Windy City that has built its business hopes in the shape of a loaf. The place is called The Meatloaf Bakery, which we heard about on blog site, Eat me daily.

The menu includes The Mother Loaf (beef, pork, and veal frosted with Yukon gold mash), The Loaf-A-Roma (beef, Italian sausage, red wine, sun-dried tomatoes, topped with angel hair pasta and marinara) — and The No Buns About It Burger Loaf, a hamburger in cupcake form, made from “bacon, cheddar, onions, mustard, ketchup, pickles, and — oh yeah — some beef,” topped with cheesy taters and special sauce.

If you’re trying to stay clear of red meat, the meatloaf emporium also offers The Herby Turkey Loaf, made with lean ground turkey with a blend of spices, garlic, red pepper, fresh herbs and a dusting of aged parmesan cheese crowned with herby bread dressing and served with cranberry sauce.

Could this be a franchise-worthy concept, opening soon on a street corner near you? We’ll just have to wait and see.
