New Zagat Guide Lists NYC Certified Green Restaurants®

With support from Naya water, a new limited edition Zagat guide will help hungry New Yorkers to find ‘green restaurants’ located in the in New York City metro area. The guide is the first of its kind and is printed on 100% post consumer recycled paper that is processed chlorine free. It includes a subway map and neighborhood lists of selected establishments.

Naya water is sponsoring the guide to help promote its new eco friendly packaging. The company has introduced the first water bottle made with 50% recycled plastic. Naya sees the Zagat guide as a way to honor its step towards helping the environment.

The venues listed in the guide are certified by the Green Restaurant Association (GRA), a national non-profit organization founded in 1990 to help create an environmentally sustainable restaurant industry. The GRA provides a comprehensive and user-friendly method of rewarding existing restaurants and foodservice operations giving out points in each of the GRA’s Seven Environmental Categories.

3. Sustainable Furnishings and Building Materials
4. Sustainable Food
5. Energy
6. Disposables
7. Chemical and Pollution Reduction

The 35 selected restaurants are individually rated by thousands of surveyors on, based on ratings for food, décor, service, and estimated cost. Surveyors also contribute witty, pithy comments that are synthesized into fun-to-read reviews.

The guide will be distributed in the streets of Manhattan during the months of July and August. Gotham citizens and visiting tourists alike can carry this New York Guide of Certified Green Restaurants in their wallets and enjoy a meal that is Lighter on the Planet.
