What are you giving up for Lent? Christen Nehmer, videographer for The Food Channel, is giving us her experience in going meatless. Follow along throughout the 40 days of Lent.
Day Eighteen:
Today I woke up late and didn’t really feel like eating anything so I had some orange juice.
My boyfriend and I decided that we wanted to grill later that evening with some friends, so we went to Captain Craig’s (a seafood monger) to pick up some fresh Florida Keys shrimp. We got to our friends house, and right as we walked into the kitchen Katie (our friend’s wife) was frying up bacon for the salad.
I closed my eyes and remembered how delicious fresh, fried bacon is. She apologized for the bacon and said that she would leave it on the side so I wouldn’t have it in my salad.
After I prepped the veggies and shrimp, I took them downstairs and outside to the grill. Craig opened up the grill and there it was, a huge steak. It was just staring up at me. It smelled fantastic. The grill marks even looked extremely appetizing.
I laid my shrimp on the grill next to the steak and sighed. I am halfway through Lent on Monday and I am getting the itch, that is for sure. I’ve made it this far, hopefully the rest of time will be a steak, I mean cake walk.
