40 Days Sans Meat: Temptation Strikes

By

What are you giving up for Lent? Christen Nehmer, videographer for The Food Channel, is giving us her experience in going meatless. Follow along throughout the 40 days of Lent.

Watch for our recipe for candied bacon (it’s dipped in chocolate!). But you might want to wait until after Lent . . .

Day Two:

Alright so great success so far. Until…about 4:30 p.m. yesterday…I’m in the kitchen at work and what are they photographing?

You won’t believe this. (Oh and P.S., it’s very difficult to work here and not eat everything the chefs make.) ANYWAY. I stroll into the kitchen for a meeting and what is sitting on the table staring up at me? I think this is anyone’s weakness. It’s bacon that has been caramelized with brown sugar and dipped in chocolate.

So during this meeting I’m just staring at the candied bacon. I don’t think I could tell you what the meeting was about. I love me some bacon and having it candied…whoa.

I get home and Mom tells me she’s making a pot of sauce. A sigh of relief for me because I love her sauce with or without meatballs. It’s that good. For all of you who don’t know what “sauce” is…it’s Italian for spaghetti and meatballs. Day two sans meat…difficult, but successful.

Here’s what I ate:

Breakfast: Oatmeal with a banana and a latte sweetened with agave
Lunch: Healthy Choice Mixer-Pasta with Zesty Marinara
Snack: Greek yogurt with granola
Dinner: Sauce (yes, I had sauce twice today)
Dessert: Ice cream sandwich
