The Hardee’s (and sibling, Carl Jr.’s) quick-service restaurant chain hasn’t been known in recent times for its abundance of healthful dining choices. The people behind the Thickburger and other meat-centric menu items are more associated with putting sexy women in their TV commercials (Paris Hilton, Padma Lakshmi) chowing down on one of their meat monstrosities than they are with offering something that could be considered “sensible.”
Well, here’s a start. Hardee’s has become the first major quick-service restaurant chain to add a turkey burger to its permanent menu. It’s being touted by the chain as a healthier alternative to the traditional beef burger.
True to form, however, Hardee’s is launching the burger with a TV spot starring “Miss Turkey,” strutting the beach in a bikini, sash, and tiara, munching on the turkey burger.
According to the burger chain, the under-500-calories burger was developed in partnership with the “Eat This/Not That” team from Men’s Health magazine. ET/NT co-author Matt Goulding spent time in the Hardee’s test kitchens working with the chain’s product development staff.
Bottom line: Hardee’s is making a show of talking turkey, but will their customers eat it? We’ll just have to stay tuned.
