Mixologists Compete to Win Star of the Bar

Voting is now underway for the National Restaurant Association’s Star of the Bar competition sponsored by Bacardi. You can help determine which bartender wins the big prize.

Professional and amateur mixologists from around the country are competing for the $5,000 grand prize to be awarded at next month’s NRA Show and International Wine, Spirits & Beer event in Chicago. Each competitor has submitted a signature cocktail, presenting it in 2 minutes or less via YouTube video.

Online voting will be open through April 11. You can vote at the IWSB Web site.  Based on the voting results, six semi-finalists will be selected to compete in Chicago at the NRA/IWSB show, May 22-23. The ultimate Star of the Bar will be chosen from this group by the restaurant and hospitality industry and a panel of expert judges including “The Modern Mixologist,” Tony Abou-Ganim.

Your vote will help select the finalists. You may only vote once. You’re asked to critically evaluate the video submissions on the first 2 minutes of the video only, taking into account the following judging criteria: (25%) technical skill, (50%) taste, (25%) sales appeal. The six semifinalists will be announced on April 15th.

Below is a sampling of some of the submissions. You can see them all and vote here.
