In a ground-breaking effort to bring the global knowledge of experts in the field of sustainability together with foodservice professionals for an opportunity to exchange ideas, opinions and insights, the National Restaurant Association and Kendall College are co-sponsoring the first-ever International Foodservice Sustainability Symposium (IFSS).
This event will directly follow NRA Show 2011 in Chicago with a condensed schedule full of informative and innovative programming centered around sustainability issues, including green building, emerging technologies and sustainable food.
“The IFSS will provide foodservice professionals with the information and tools they need to make critical decisions about complex sustainability issues,” said Dawn Sweeney, NRA president and CEO. “We have identified sustainability as a key industry imperative in our multi-year strategic plan, and are committed to educating our members on how to increase environmental efforts and boost their bottom line. This symposium is set up to give attendees the objective information they need to find the answers that work for them.”
With sustainability at the forefront of every industry, it is affecting the bottom line for foodservice-based businesses today, and can be expected to have greater influence on customer purchasing behavior, as well as cost-effectiveness and productivity for foodservice professionals, in the future.
“For the last several years, I’ve traveled the country talking about sustainability as a journey composed of baby steps,” said Christopher Koetke, dean, Kendall College School of Culinary Arts, and vice-president, Laureate International Universities Center for Culinary Excellence. “The IFSS is an opportunity to take a giant educational leap that will support your sustainability journey for years to come.”
The symposium will begin at 3:00 p.m. May 24 at Kendall College and continue through the following afternoon. Participants are encouraged to register early because of the 150-person attendance limit. Those who register through March 15 will receive a $50 early registration discount. For more information, visit ifssymposium.org.
