Sunday, January 23, is National Pie Day. That’s an easy date to remember, right? Every year on 1/23 we celebrate with pie. Easy as…well, you know.
How will you celebrate Nat Pie Day?
- The American Pie Council recommends that you observe the occasion by honoring a local hero—a police officer, fire fighter, community leader—with the gift of a fresh-baked pie. “Sharing a favorite pie with the hero in your neighborhood or city is a fun, thoughtful way to recognize their service to your community,” says Linda Hoskins, executive director, of the APC. “After all, 90 percent of Americans agree that a slice of pie represents one of the simple pleasures in life.”
- The Grand Traverse Pie Company also suggests you “warm your heart with a pie” by sending someone a pie. The folks there note that several trend spotters, including The Food Channel, have picked pie as one of the top trends for 2011. Grand Traverse offers more than two dozen varieties of hand-crafted-from-scratch pies—each made with Michigan fruit and Michigan ingredients. We tried their Chocolate Covered Cherry Crumb Pie—fabulous.
- Or maybe you’d rather celebrate Pie Day by drinking one. Our friends at 1800 Tequila have cooked up a trio of pie-inspired custom cocktail recipes just for the occasion. Choose from the Caramel Apple Pie Martini, the Pumpkin Pie-tini, or Grandma’s Cherry Pie Cocktail.
