What to Snack On During the Royal Wedding

The wait is almost over. The hype has reached a fevered peak. The Will and Kate nuptials are finally here!

So, are you planning to get up in the wee hours of the morning to be a witness to this Wedding of the Century? If so, you’re probably going to be hungry—if not right away, then sometime during the festivities (NBC’s Today Show plans to broadcast 7 hours of coverage!).

What to nibble on during the posh proceedings? Tea and crumpets would seem to be in order. Perhaps some bangers and mash would be nice, or how about a bowl of spotted dick (a steamed suet pudding containing dried fruit, commonly served with custard or butter and brown sugar). Fish and Chips and Shepherd’s Pie…probably not suitable for early morning fare.

Heir to the Throne and English Scones

That British breakfast classic—scones—would seem to suit the affair just about perfectly. We can suggest two scones recipes we especially like. Cheddar Chive Scones were part of our Potluck Easter Buffet; the nice thing about this particular recipe is that these delectable Cheddar beauties can be enjoyed for breakfast or dinner—in case you’re planning to set the DVR for evening viewing.

Another recipe on our site, straightforwardly named English Scones, suggests adding plumped dried apricots, raisins, chocolate morsels or blueberries to the dough before kneading.

Commemorate the occasion with something ritzy

Sweet Sally’s Bake Shop has created a special Scones Trio in honor of the Royal Wedding.  The Ritzy Tea Time Scones Trio contains Double Chocolate Scones, Sour Cherry White Chocolate Scones, and Lemon & Currant Scones in a cute round tin. Each package is made it order and are made from all natural ingredients and do not use preservatives. They’re even trans-fat free! According to Sally, all are fit for a king and queen (or prince and princess)!

To that we say, Cheers!…God save the Queen…cheerio…pip, pip…and may the lovely couple live happily ever after.
