It’s National Donut Day (June 1), giving Americans permission to indulge! Just think about how much fun it is to dunk a donut into a cup of coffee, or a glass or milk. Or how that flashing “Hot” sign at Krispy Kreme makes your mouth start to water. Or how fun it is to stand in front of your local bakery donut case and know that you can choose from a wide variety of delectable options, most for under a dollars.
And, today, if you stop by a Dunkin’ Donuts, they’ll even treat you to a free donut of their choice (while supplies last) with the purchase of any beverage.
Same at Krispy Kreme, where every guest can get one free donut of any variety at participating locations.
Dunkin’ Donuts is having even more fun with the national day, starting with ringing the stock market Opening Bell at the NASDAQ MarketSite in New York City’s Times Square this morning. They also managed to sneak an extra “D” for donut into the name: in honor of the holiday, NASDAQ has unofficially changed its name to “NASDDAQ” for the day, incorporating Dunkin Donuts’ iconic pink and orange D’s into the NASDAQ logo while changing the “Q” to include a donut. And, Dunkin’ Donuts is also celebrating on Twitter, with the National Donut Day Twitter Sweepstakes.
National Donut Day, held the first Friday of June each year, was originally established in 1938 by the Chicago Salvation Army to honor women who served donuts to soldiers during World War I.
