Cold brew coffee, in particular, is a trend that we have been monitoring for some time and have seen it expand and grow into a more mainstream setting today. No one bats an eye when they hear the term ‘cold brew’ and the majority of consumers have tried it in some fashion or form.
DIY cold brew coffee is one of the most popular ways to create your brew, so when we heard about the BOD® portable cold brew system from BodyBrew, we were highly interested. The company provided a sample unit and coffee for experimentation.
The BOD® claims to be a portable cold-brew system that makes a smooth, delicious and super-concentrated coffee extract that can be stored in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. The patented cold brew coffee system is said to extract 15 percent more than other machines to produce a coffee that’s low in Cafestol, oily compounds and acids. It’s an all in one, easy-to-use, system that sounded impressive. So, did we like it?
What We Think
If you love your cold brew coffee, the BOD® BodyBrew Cold Brew Coffee System is a must-try. If you run out every morning before work in a panic to get your cold brew or iced coffee, it’s time for a change. This system not only lets you control the strength of your coffee and flavor but, honestly, it’s fun to use!
I tried, and loved, the complimentary BodyBrew Bodacious Cold Brew Coffee Blend that was sent with the system, but you could honestly use any 8 oz. bag or blend of your favorite coffee. The BodyBrew Bodacious Blend is made with 100 percent dark-roasted Arabica beans which provides a smooth, rich yet bold cold-brew coffee. If you aren’t sure which coffee to select with your new system, I would recommend this blend first.
To make your cold brew, simply fill the filter with 8 oz. of coffee, fill the surrounding compartment with the recommended amount of water and let it steep for 12-24 hours. Optionally, you can flip the brew over mid-steep for a few seconds to redistribute the coffee grounds and then return it to it’s steeping position. Simple as that!
Once it’s ready, which is your call based on how long you’d like it to steep for the strength of flavor, you flip the BodyBrew system over and let it drain your deliciously bold and smooth cold brew into the upper compartment. Seal it with the provided lids, and stick it in the fridge for consumption when ready. It’s seamless, easy, with no hassle or mess and the system can be cleaned ridiculously quick.
All in All
The BOD® BodyBrew Cold Brew Coffee System is a game changer. I have seen many other devices that claim to yield the same results, but this is the most streamlined and efficient process to date. There’s no messy filters, no extra buys, no unreasonable measurements – it’s all done and provided for you.
And the cold brew coffee flavor? Amazing. I added a splash of vanilla almond milk to my BodyBrew cold brew, poured it over ice and went on my way to work happily. There was no mid-day caffeine crash, which is a double-edged sword because that means I could drink this cold brew all day long without consequence – which I plan to do.
