That’s why when I got the invitation to try the KRUPS Air Fryer I jumped at the chance to test it out! And, if you’re anything like me, your first thought is, what really is an air fryer?
Stay with me. In layman’s terms, an air fryer is a healthier alternative to traditional frying. More specifically, the KRUPS Air Fryer uses 3D Air Pulse Technology that operates using an upper heating element and airflow that allows for healthier and more rapid cooking than traditional frying. As well as frying though, the air fryer can also grill, roast and bake a multitude of different foods.
That being said, the entire process was still completely mystifying for me and I could not wrap my head around what it meant for food to be fried by air – but I was ready to test it out.
When searching for a recipe idea, I was surprised at the vast amount options. People are out there making everything from bread and cookies to roasted vegetables and meat – it truly seems as if there are no limits to the air fryer capabilities.
For myself, however, a very unseasoned air fryer operator, I opted to make buffalo cauliflower, which I was already somewhat familiar with.
If you’ve never indulged, buffalo cauliflower is a vegan alternative to the traditional buffalo wing (a food I also greatly enjoy) and is made with just a few simple, alternative ingredients. When made well, it’s a spicy, cheesy, and delicious recipe. The cauliflower softens on the inside and crisps on the outside, creating the perfect texture!
For my own recipe, I used Franks Red Hot Extra Hot Sauce, nutritional yeast, cornstarch, organic honey, salt, and pepper. No exact measurements were used, it is mostly to taste, minus the cornstarch which simply acts as a binding agent.
The prep was simple, just chop up a head of cauliflower to desired portions, combine all of your ingredients, and toss to combine. Transfer to the air fryer and distribute in a single layer so that they cook evenly and set your temperature according to the recipe you’re using. Way too easy!
Regardless of my skepticism and my air frying doubts, the results were incredible.
The heating element and optimized airflow crisped up the cauliflower perfectly and even created those crispy charred bits that, I thought, only oven-roasting could achieve. The texture was incredibly satisfying and resulted in a crispy, tender, and flavor-loaded buffalo cauliflower ‘wing’ that I could not put down.
In fact, I made a second batch after I devoured the first in record time. The KRUPS Air Fryer is hands down my new favorite kitchen gadget and I am so excited to continue to make a variety of healthily fried foods. If it’s our recommendation you’re looking for, we loved this product and recommend you give it a try. It could forever change your kitchen game.
