We spent many happy weekends fishing, going to visit my grandparents and playing golf (he played, I watched). He made a mean homemade ice cream that took hours of work, taught himself how to do beautiful stained-glass art, and could take a car engine apart and put it back together in no time. I wish everyone could have such strong, positive role models in their lives. If you do, let them know this Father's Day how much you appreciate them. And don't forget to show some appreciation with a great spread of food and drink!

Mars has partnered with several of America's most iconic historic venues, and when folks visit around the 4th holiday, they'll learn not only about the nation's history, but debunk many myths and legends about chocolate as well. Didn't realize there were legends about chocolate? Oh yes there are - it's not Scandal or Conspiracy Theory with Jesse Ventura, but there is castle intrigue around chocolate.

It's National Ice Cream day, and it's certainly fitting for those in warmer climates as it's the perfect way to cool down on a hot day. But I like it year-round. It wasn't always that way. Not to date myself, but when I was a kid, summer gatherings - especially Memorial Day, July Fourth, my birthday in August, or when out-of-town relatives visited - all meant one thing. Lots of fun, laughter and playing games while we waited hours for the ice cream to finish.

One trend we've been watching for some time is chefs or food bloggers who take traditional or classic dishes and lighten them up to create something with more contemporary appeal. Such is the case with The Lighten Up Cookbook, by author Addie Gundry, who was also a winner of the TV Food Network's Cutthroat Kitchen in 2015. She obviously doesn't shy away from a challenge and in her new book she gives some classic American dishes a makeover.

We celebrate cheese this month and I have to say, cheese is one food I eat practically every day. I never seem to tire of the endless forms and flavors, in sauces and dips, on its own with crackers, on sandwiches - it's a world of food opportunity!

Heres one you havent seen before: a review of a restaurant that is closed. Obviously, its not because we can suggest you go there, even though we really liked the food and they got great reviews from customers. Its because theirs was a restaurant dream that came to life and then died.
