Make this easy entree using Tazo Chai tea from the national supermarket if you can, or brew your own.
Ingredients
- 4 pork chops or a small tenderloin
- 1 cup raisins or Medjool dates
- 1 cup pistachios or hazelnuts, shelled
- 2 tablespoons regional honey
- 2 chai tea bags OR 2 cups of concentrate
- 3/4 cup water
- 1 tablespoon sea salt
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
Preparation
- 1 For the chai fruit compote:
- 2 In a small saucepan, add water, 1 chai tea bag (spices still in bag), and honey under medium heat. Let that start to caramelize. Option 1: Using concentrate, minus water, follow the same directions.
- 3 Once the mixture begins to thicken, add dried fruit.
- 4 When the mixture has thickened, add 1/2 chai tea bag (the spices from the bag) to the fruit compote as well as the pistachios.
- 5 Mix well and remove from heat.
- 6 Seasoning pork chops or tenderloin:
- 7 Season pork chops with salt, cinnamon, garlic powder, and the leftover 1/2 chai tea bag spices on both sides of the chops.
- 8 Add a bit of fat (bacon, coconut oil, olive oil) to a large skill over medium-high heat, or grill them!
- 9 Cook pork chops (time will range depending on thickness) on both side for about 4-5 minutes per side.
- 10 Top cooked pork chops with Chai fruit compote. It should still be warm.
- 11 FYI- Sugar gets REALLY hot.
