Enhance the flavor of your holiday ham with three “Ah” inspiring glazes!

Provided with a sample of an heirloom-bred, free-range ham from Organic Prairie – a farmer-owned operation – I found its old-fashioned flavor and goodness is an excellent choice for those pursuing food choices that are free of GMOs, hybrids and also raised on a natural, vegan diet, which Organic Prairie prides itself on doing.

Their ham is deliciously different and, when further enhanced with a well-made glaze,  becomes so outstanding you cannot help but say, “Ah!”

Ingredients

Marvelous Maple Glaze

  • 1/2 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup apple juice
  • 1 heaping tablespoon brown or Dijon mustard (optional)

Perky Pineapple Brown Sugar Glaze

  • 15 ounces crushed pineapple in its own juice
  • 1 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground clove
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne powder

Gorgeous Guinness Glaze

  • 12 ounces Guinness beer
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup honey

Preparation

For the Marvelous Maple Glaze

  • 1 In a medium saucepan combine the maple syrup, brown sugar, apple juice, mustard, and ground spice, if using. Place it over medium-high heat and bring to a boil. Boil the mixture for about 2 minutes; being careful not to let it boil over.

For the Perky Pineapple Brown Sugar Glaze

  • 1 In a small saucepan, combine all ingredients, stirring to blend well. Place it over medium-high heat and bring to a boil then reduce heat to a simmer. Cook until mixture is reduced to almost half, about 10 minutes.

For the Gorgeous Guinness Glaze

  • 1 In a small saucepan, combine all ingredients, stirring to blend well. Place it over medium-high heat and bring to a boil then reduce heat to a simmer. Cook until mixture is reduced to almost half, about 10 minutes.
