It took a little while longer, but the 100-calorie snack pack trend has gained a new member: HostessTwinkies. That’s right, one of America’s favorite indulgences can now be enjoyed with a (sort of) ‘guilt-free’mentality. Hey, it’s only 100 calories.

Hostess sells some 500 million of the classic little cream-filled golden sponge cake loaves every year.

Instead of the traditional elongated shape of regular Twinkies, the 100-calorie pack version contains three smaller round-shaped Twinkie ‘bites.’ Quoted by the AP, David Leavitt, vice president of snack marketing at Hostess, said the new 100-calorie version ‘eats like a Twinkie, it smells like a Twinkie, it tastes like a Twinkie.’

In light of the shaky economy, Hostess has high hopes that all those people who are now brown-bagging it at work will start packing the slimmed-down Twinkie packs into those lunch bags.
