During tough economic times it is important for restaurants to understand each of their target audiences. Appealing to different audience demographics is the only sure way to stay in business. One of the largest groups of consumers that is still spending are 16 to 34 year olds. They are known as the Millennials, and according to a recent NRN article there are some key points to keep in mind when trying to market to them.
Snacking: Millennials enjoy snacking between meals. With this in mind restaurants might choose to add some snack items to their menu to satisfy this demographic’s snack craving. Items like smoothies are a great way to add something small to a menu that would be a great snack item. The Millennial Generation also enjoys healthy eats and exotic flavors so mixing things up and creating some exciting small plates will set you apart from competitors and make your restaurant more appealing.
Experience: Research shows that Millennials are drawn to the experience that a restaurant provides. That may be from the atmosphere or from the menu itself. Going through your dining room every so often to make sure it is in top shape will ensure that you are putting your best foot forward for every customer that comes through your doors. Millennials also look at dining out as a social experience. Making your restaurant the place to be and be seen will be sure to bring in the demographic.
Technology: Millennials have grown up with technology and are very adapt at using it in every situation, dining out being no exception. Integrating technology into your restaurant experience may appeal to this demographic. Whether you use the latest mobile ordering systems or use your website to create an experience that brings your business to the digital world, the millennial generation will surely adopt the technology quickly.
However you choose to market to your audience just remember that different techniques work for different demographics and you must target accordingly to bring in the consumer you desire.
