As a gluten-free semi-vegan, I eat a lot of salads. They’re quick, easy, and I’ve always held the philosophy that the fresher my food, the less I have to worry about eating it. A salad is the perfect way to get some tasty fresh veggies with little effort. But too much of a great thing can get really old, really fast. I’m always looking for new ways to spice up a plain old salad. One easy way I add a twist is to experiment with dressing recipes. Various herbs and spices, vinegars and oils, you name it, I’ve probably tried it. So when Vilux Blackcurrant Vinegar caught my eye on The Food Channel World Market, I decided to grab it and give it a whirl.
This French red wine vinegar is infused with blackcurrant flavor that I could smell as soon as I opened the bottle. I decided to keep it simple so the blackcurrant flavor would really shine through, mixing it just with a bit of oil and a few spices before tossing with some spring greens, tomatoes, cucumbers and sweet peppers. To my delight, the splash of sweet blackcurrant flavor with the tanginess of red wine vinegar were absolutely delicious, and refreshing. After trying this vinegar in a few different recipes, I’ll definitely be adding it to my salad dressing rotation. After all, variety, as they say, is the spice of life. And that old phrase ‘it tastes like vinegar’ takes on a whole new meaning.
