Can the ever-adapting McDonald’s make Fish Bites as popular as its chicken nuggets (pictured)? Word has it the company is on track to start touting sustainable seafood for its fish sandwich and new Fish McBites. The product will reportedly be endorsed with the Marine Stewardship Council seal, calling out that it is wild-caught Alaskan Pollock. I actually saw my first ad this week, and I think they’ve done a really nice job of getting their point across. Makes me want to move to Alaska! After all, beautiful wildlife and scenery really do help to reassure the average consumer of corporate responsibility.
As we watch the trends, we’ve found that sustainability is no longer only for the niche players. In fact, several of the major fast-food operators have jumped on board and are making very public commitments about their animal welfare stance. I don’t usually think of fast food chains being this responsible and transparent, but in this day and age, it’s becoming absolutely necessary!
All this is perfectly timed to coincide with the upcoming Lenten season and the launch of new Fish McBites. As they say, timing is everything!
