Algae is a trending food for 2016 not only for its heart healthy benefits but because it is sustainable and environmentally friendly as well. Adding a couple of scoops of spirulina powder to your favorite breakfast smoothie or after workout smoothie can keep your heart happy and keep your food trendy and fresh. Don’t worry if you don’t have your own smoothie recipes to modify! The Food Channel has you covered with this sweet and healthy superfood smoothie recipe.

1 cup coconut water
1/2 teaspoon spirulina powder
2 small bananas
1 scoop hemp protein powder, unflavored
1 teaspoon bee pollen
Coconut nectar, as needed to sweeten
1
Just blend the ingredients until you have a smooth consistency and enjoy!
