Braise: The KitchenLingo Definition

Braise: The KitchenLingo Definition

Braising is one of those common words that isn’t quite as simple as it might seem. Unlike fry or grill, braising has multiple steps. And it’s sometimes confused with broiling.

What does braising mean? Our Kitchen Lingo cooking glossary explains the concept, and then shows you how to achieve the desired result with an instructional video — less than one minute long.

Here’s the definition of braise: To prepare food that is first seared at a high temperature, and then finished by adding moisture in a covered pot at a lower tempeature.
